Virtue of that appropriativity (I stipulate, defining ‘virtue’ for purposes here) is the exemplarity of admirable capability shown. Virtuous (S/s) appropriativity (s/p) values practicality (p <—> p), especially when the other lacks differentiated identity (children, confused peers, unmindful persons), which calls for enabling mutuality (e.g., in teaching, parenting, or professional helping) or calls for leading the interaction (when the other has trouble with mutuality or learning). Ideally, virtue of causing others’ lives to become good and remain so becomes common by example. Noblesse oblige is appropriate, when applicable, because noble spirit is appealing. We want as much of that as possible. We love stories of nobility, because we want that in our lives. We want to see celebration of noble acts, the ennobling of exemplary action, and instillation of high virtue in elected leadership, for the sake of advancing lives, community, and humanistic presence. |
